"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" ( Philippians 3:14)
Generation X, often called the ‘middle child’ generation, finds itself in a unique position, sandwiched between the influential Baby Boomers and the tech-savvy Millennials. But how can this generation step out of the shadows and embark on their true identities, not defined by societal labels, but by how God sees them? God created the Heavens and the Earth. The Earth was created as a space where His purposes and goals for humankind could be realized. After making the heavens, the earth, and all the elements of nature, He created Adam and Eve in His image and likeness and proclaimed that all was Good (Genesis 1: 1-31).
Today’s perception of who we are has been influenced by external factors, often leading us to struggle with our identities. As a society, we usually find it challenging to break free from the confines of societal norms. We are inclined to depend on others to shape our identity, determine our capabilities, and dictate our timing, resulting in a life of mediocrity where we fall short of realizing all that God intended for us to be and achieve. It’s time for us to take back control and redefine our narratives.
Conversely, due to our sense of independence, we often settle for the status quo and go with the flow of things. This mindset takes us on a journey of stagnation and develops a perpetual cycle of being stuck in the same place in life, unable to move forward, especially when it comes to the plans God initially ordained for us. Unfortunately, this is prevalent in some church institutions and needs to be addressed. As children of God, we need to be awakened. Isaiah envisioned a time when Jerusalem would be restored. He wrote, “Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth, there shall no more come unto thee the uncircumcised and the unclean ( Isaiah 52:1).” This was not a mere suggestion, but a call to action. It is time to stand up and walk in our authority, taking our rightful places in the Kingdom.
God calls for the kings and priests to be awakened in the church and occupy their rightful place. We must reclaim our identities and recover all the adversary took from us. These things are not always tangible, but we must regain our godly perspective, zeal, yearnings, and desires and once again walk in purpose. We are not fighting in a natural war; this is a spiritual battle. We are champions in the army of the Lord. We are winners. Paul wrote:
Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. And be ready to avenge all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled ( II Cor. 10: 3-6).
We are children of the highest God, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This gives us a royal lineage. We are kings and priests. Revelation 1:5-6 reads:
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth, unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and Father; to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
We are royalty and must reclaim our identity!
